Food for thought

Below are just some observations I've come to realize about my own life and the life of many Americans since arriving in Costa Rica...
  • The next time you get ready for bed, think of how much water you use just brushing your teeth and washing your face.  Did you turn the faucet off when you weren't using water?
  • Then think of all the water you use when flushing the toilet.  Why don't we have 2 options for flushing (little water vs. lot of water) like in every other part of the world including CR?
  • Look around your room, how many electricity-using items are plugged in? Here, everything except the refrigerator is unplugged when it is not being used, including the stove, lights, chargers, everything.
  • On the same note, how many lights are on in your house right now? Here if you're not in the room reading or doing something that requires light, it isn't on.
  • When is the last time you washed your curtains? Scrubbed your floors? Bleached the entire bathroom? Ticas take great pride in cleaning their homes, every single day.
  • When someone tells you they're American, do you automatically think they are from the United States? I did before coming here! American = a person of the Americas...meaning any of the Americas...not just North America! People from Central and South America are Americans too...typical egocentric US!
